AKC Rally Competition
Rally, is the
newest AKC dog sport. It became titling on January 1, 2005. Dog
and handler complete a course designed by the judge. Once the judge
tells the team to begin, dog and handler proceed at their own pace
through a course of designated stations, performing the exercises
described on each sign. Scoring is not as rigorous as formal obedience
and handlers are permitted to talk, praise, clap their hands, pat
their legs or use any verbal means of encouragement.
Tight leads are penelized but perfect heel position is not required.
Exercise performed incorrectly may be redone with out failure. A
perfect score is 100 and 70 is passing.
There are 3 levels of Rally, Novice- performed on lead, Advanced-
off lead with 1 jump, Excellent-off lead with 2 jump. Three qualifying
scores earns a title.
The first west coast Rally competition was held over 3 days at the
Indio shows. Four bulldogs competed and two earned their titles.
McPike & Prize are the first Bulldogs to earn the Rally title.
